Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Deep Learning

Full-time · Rotterdam

What will you be doing?

The leading techniques in Scanning Probe Microscopy (SPM) and Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) have enabled the investigation of surfaces and adsorbates on surfaces with atomic precision for a wide range of materials. AFM measures the interaction force between the tip and the substrate.

The AFM images show a geometric dilation due to tip size, which is furthermore evident in the presence of features with a high aspect ratio (HAR), and typically causes an overestimation of the external lateral dimensions of columns or steps and an underestimation of the internal ones in narrow grooves or valleys. Evidence of this geometric dilation is given in the AFM images of the complex shape represent one of the main sources of error in their 3D AFM reconstruction. The methodologies for the correction of this error are essentially based on the a priori characterization of the tip with reference samples and on blind reconstruction methods and algorithms.

Many automatic image processing algorithms have been developed to provide much more accurate measurement of dimensions and tip effects from the microscopy images.

You will develop and use artificial intelligent, deep learning and machine learning techniques to enhance image quality, extract accurate dimensions from the microscopy images and estimate the tip shape effect on the measurement quality.

You will be part of our Research & Development team of about 10 R&D Engineers. Together with your team you improve our current products and develop relevant new solutions and technologies by working closely with Product Marketing, Engineering and Operations, all driven by our customer needs. Every one of our talented R&D engineers is committed to solve the challenge and unmet need of our customers.

The R&D team’s primary focus will be the development of the next generation product and the technologies. Aim of the R&D team will be to bring the product development to a FUMO (functional model) or prototype status and then subsequently work with the engineering teams to release the product for volume manufacturing.

You manage the organization of your team to ensure technical, schedule and budget compliance of the projects you are involved in, supporting proper follow-up and decision-making.
