About Nearfield Instruments

Chips are shrinking, becoming increasingly powerful and complex. But as a result, currently used metrology systems in the semiconductor industry no longer meet process control requirements. Nearfield Instruments offers the solution in terms of speed, precision and the capability of measuring the very latest, most complex 3D nanostructures. As a metrology application engineer, you will play a key role in identifying and meeting each customer’s metrology needs. Would you like to collaborate with the world’s leading chipmakers and get to see the results of your work in practice? We’re growing rapidly and are hiring multiple candidates.

What you're going to do

In your role, you will be bridging the gap between product development, onsite customer application services, and sales. Helping the world’s leading chipmakers stay in control of their manufacturing processes, you will convince them of the capabilities of our cutting-edge atomic force microscopy (AFM) systems, demonstrating them on customer wafers, and contribute to R&D to meet future needs.

Your responsibilities include:

• Identifying our customer’s metrology needs, for which you will work closely with marketing and sales colleagues and attend meetings with customers.

• Demonstrating the capabilities of our products, performing measurements on customer wafers, and analyzing the data generated.

• Reporting and presenting your findings to our customers, showing the unique potential of our systems.

• Creating measurement recipes in the customer fab, working closely with the customer. You will also conduct tests to ensure that specifications are met and train the engineers and operators of our customers.

• Working closely with colleagues in Development & Engineering and R&D to develop new measurement modes and metrology solutions, data processing algorithms, and improve user-friendliness and product performance. You will provide input based on your insights into our customers’ roadmaps, user experiences and needs.

Who you'll be working with

As a rapidly growing scale-up, we have no closely defined boundaries or hierarchy. We all work together to realise Nearfield Instruments’ growth strategy. What connects us is a drive to develop and build deeptech metrology solutions, enabling 5G connectivity, AI, autonomous mobility and so much more. As an international team, we have different cultural backgrounds, which is why diversity and inclusion come naturally to us. Our combined identities and ambitions enrich our culture and make up our strength. We encourage you to be authentic and empower you to grow your role and career in an open, friendly and supportive atmosphere.

What you'll get

At Nearfield Instruments, you’ll be joining the most creative minds in science and technology from all over the world. Caring about your work-life balance, we enable you to simplify the logistics of your life by empowering you to get the job done in the way that works best for your role, development and personal circumstances. These are your benefits:

• A competitive salary.

• A good pension scheme.

• Personalised training and education for your personal and career development.

• A holiday allowance of 8% and 30 days of annual leave, based on a 40-hour week.

• A work-from-home allowance.

• A commuting allowance.

• A discount on your health insurance.

Who you are

You thrive on working as an engineer in a customer-facing role at a deeptech scale-up, where interdisciplinary collaboration is crucial. Leveraging your communication skills, you effortlessly interact with customers and colleagues to secure the best possible metrology solutions for each customer’s needs. You are prepared to occasionally work outside office hours, as you’ll be sharing our demo and product development tool. Suffice to say this flexibility is reciprocated, as part of our drive to support your work-life balance.

You also have:

• A PhD or MSc in Physics, Mechatronics, Material Engineering or another relevant subject.

• Experience in developing or using of metrology tools in a manufacturing environment.

• A good understanding of semiconductor manufacturing.

• Experience or a keen interest in atomic force microscopy. Your ability to learn quickly will help you bridge any gaps you may have in your knowledge and skills.

• Experience in coding in MATLAB, Python or other relevant languages for data analysis and visualisation geared to improving communication with clients and colleagues. Experience of algorithm development is a plus.
