Nearfield Instruments (NFI) is a fast-growing scale-up high-tech company. We design, develop, integrate, market and service advanced metrology machines. Our machines enable our customers - the world’s leading chipmakers – to increase the production yields, and thus, functionality of their microchips, which in turn leads to smaller, more powerful consumer electronics.
Founded in 2016, we bring together the most creative minds (approx. 400 employees) in science and technology and develop a one-of-a-kind, revolutionary high throughput Scanning Probe Microscopy system.

Where you will be working
You will join the Finance team and acting as a trusted advisor to the CFO, business stakeholders and our Leadership team.
What will you be doing?
As a Senior Business Controller, you will be responsible for driving financial performance, supporting strategic decision-making, and ensuring robust financial governance. Your role will go beyond reporting and you will actively influence business outcomes and contribute to the company’s growth trajectory.
Your key responsibilities include:
Leading the budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning processes.
Providing in-depth financial analysis and actionable insights to support strategic decisions.
Acting as a sparring partner for senior leadership on business cases, investments, and profitability.
Monitoring and improving KPIs, margins, and cost structures across departments.
Driving financial process optimization and implementing best practices for scalability.
Managing risk assessments and ensuring compliance with NL GAAP and IFRS.
Supporting cross-functional projects, including pricing strategies and operational efficiency initiatives.
Preparing clear, data-driven reports for management and stakeholders.

Job requirements
What are we looking for?
A scale up can provide phenomenal learning and development opportunities but can also be a hectic environment at times. You must fit in such a climate and don’t mind to constantly implementing changes and process improvements, and to go the extra mile on a regular basis and feel comfortable with some uncertainty.
Furthermore, you need to recognize yourself in the profile as described below.
A completed HBO/University degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or similar.
7+ years of experience in business control or financial management, in a tech-driven or international environment.
Strong technical knowledge of NL GAAP and IFRS.
Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills and experience with ERP systems.
Excellent communication skills and ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
A proactive, hands-on mentality with a strategic mindset, you think ahead and challenge the status quo.
Comfortable working in a dynamic, fast-paced scale-up environment.
Full-time availability at our Rotterdam office.
