Job description

ABOUT NEARFIELD INSTRUMENTS

Nearfield Instruments (NFI) is a fast-growing scale-up high-tech company. We design, develop, integrate, market and service advanced metrology machines. Our machines enable our customers - the world’s leading chipmakers – to increase the production yields, and thus, functionality of their microchips, which in turn leads to smaller, more powerful consumer electronics.

Founded in 2016, we bring together the most creative minds (approx. 400 employees) in science and technology and develop a one-of-a-kind, revolutionary high throughput Scanning Probe Microscopy system.

JOB SUMMARY

The ESH Engineer / Specialist is responsible for Environmental, Safety & Health (ESH) compliance and site operational coordination across Nearfield Instruments’ Taiwan field operations. The role acts as the primary interface toward customer EHS organizations while ensuring safe and continuous execution of local field activities.

As the Taiwan organization operates with a compact team structure, this role also provides support on selected operational matters. The position is intentionally designed to combine ESH governance ownership with operational coordination support, ensuring execution continuity and alignment between customer fab requirements, field execution realities, and Nearfield global ESH standards.

This role requires a structured working style, strong coordination capability, and high attention to detail, and is well suited for someone comfortable operating across compliance, safety, and operational domains in a dynamic field environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

ESH Compliance – Customer Sites

  • Manage fab entry compliance for Field Service Engineers (FSE) and Field Application Engineers (FAE)

  • Act as main point of contact toward customer EHS organizations

  • Review, approve, and track JSA / PTW for high‑risk activities

  • Coordinate and manage customer and internal audits, CAPA tracking, and ESH reporting

  • Lead incident and near‑miss investigations, root cause analysis (RCA), and corrective actions

Regulatory & Environmental Compliance

  • Monitor Taiwan ESH, labor, and environmental regulations and implement required updates

  • Manage chemical inventory, SDS systems, and waste handling compliance

  • Maintain ESH documentation, KPIs, and compliance records in line with local and HQ requirements

Training & Safety Culture

  • Deliver ESH onboarding and refresher training for field employees and contractors

  • Support fab entry qualification and certification processes

  • Actively promote safety culture, risk awareness, and compliance mindset across the Taiwan team

Site Operations & Coordination Support

  • Support execution coordination within a lean field organization

  • Assist the Taiwan Service Manager with selected operational and execution‑related activities

  • Act as a coordination point across field activities to ensure execution continuity when resources are limited

  • Support day‑to‑day operational alignment where responsibilities may overlap due to team size

  • Ensure field execution activities continue safely, compliantly, and without disruption

ROLE RATIONALE

This role is designed to:

  • Establish single ownership for ESH compliance and execution flow

  • Reduce fragmentation of operational and compliance responsibilities

  • Align fab ESH requirements with real-world field execution

  • Improve coordination efficiency and execution reliability within the Taiwan organization

Job requirements

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering (Industrial, Environmental, Mechanical, Electrical, or related fields)

  • Minimum 2 years of ESH experience in a semiconductor fab, equipment supplier, or high-tech manufacturing environment

  • Hands-on experience supporting field activities in semiconductor fabs

  • Valid Taiwan Occupational Safety & Health certification (Level B or above)

  • Fluency in English (written and spoken)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Familiarity with TSMC ESH processes and systems (e.g. CHASE, Supply Online)

  • ISO 45001 and/or ISO 14001 internal auditor certification

  • Experience in field service, installation, upgrade, or commissioning environments

  • Ability to work independently in high‑autonomy, fast‑changing environments

ROLE NATURE

This position combines multiple critical layers:

  • ESH governance owner – risk control and compliance assurance

  • Field execution enabler – ensuring safe and continuous operations

  • HQ alignment point – reporting and alignment with global ESH standards

KEY SUCCESS METRICS

  • Zero major ESH incidents across all customer sites

  • ≥95% audit and CAPA closure within agreed SLA

  • 100% fab entry compliance for field engineers

  • Effective implementation of corrective actions with no recurrence trend

  • Full completion and compliance with ESH training requirements
