Job description

About Nearfield Instruments

Nearfield Instruments (NFI) is a fast-growing scale-up high-tech company. We design, develop, integrate, market and service advanced metrology machines. Our machines enables our customers - the world’s leading chipmakers – to increase the production yields, and thus, functionality of their microchips, which in turn leads to smaller, more powerful consumer electronics.

Founded in 2016, we bring together the most creative minds (approx. 320 employees) in science and technology and develop a one-of-a-kind, revolutionary high throughput Scanning Probe Microscopy system.

What will you be doing?

The Software Release Manager is responsible for the delivery of high-quality software releases for complex high-tech systems such as the QUADRA machine.

This role ensures predictable and reliable software releases across multiple Agile/Scrum teams, hardware platforms, and environments (factory, test, and field).

Software Delivery & Release Management

  • Own the planning, coordination, and execution of software releases, ensuring stable quarterly deliveries.

  • Serve as the single point of contact for the software release timeline and communicate plans clearly to internal stakeholders.

  • Define and manage the software release roadmap, versioning strategy, quality gates, release scope and documentation.

  • In collaboration with Test Engineers, ensure clear acceptance and test criteria are defined for all releases and patches.

  • Lead software integration testing on machines, test benches, and simulation environments.

  • Balance stability versus agility, apply engineering judgement to proactively manage risks and timely delivery.

Issue, Patch & Change Management

  • Assess, assign, and follow up on software change requests and defects from integration, factory, and field.

  • Act as escalation manager for critical issues requiring hotfixes or patches.

  • Monitor progress and ensure timely closure of high-priority issues.

  • Contribute to and help shape the software CI/CD strategy.

  • Improve and automate software development, integration, and release processes.

Where you will be working?

Within our Design & Engineering department this role is part of the Software Group of ~70 engineers working in agile teams across the full stack. You will work across these teams in strong collaboration with the D&E wide system function teams.
