Job description

Shape the future of semiconductor metrology with innovative software solutions.

From smartphones to electric vehicles, semiconductor chips are at the heart of modern technology. As these chips continue to shrink in size, traditional methods of inspection and measurement can no longer keep up with the precision required. This is where Nearfield Instruments makes a difference. We are a leading provider of advanced metrology solutions, utilizing cutting-edge technologies to ensure the highest accuracy in semiconductor manufacturing. As a Test Automation Engineer in our dynamic Software Group, you will play a crucial role in developing and testing the software that drives these state-of-the-art tools, ensuring they meet the rigorous demands of the industry.

About Nearfield Instruments

Nearfield Instruments (NFI) is a fast-growing scale-up high-tech company. We design, develop, integrate, market and service advanced metrology machines. Our machines enables our customers - the world’s leading chipmakers – to increase the production yields, and thus, functionality of their microchips, which in turn leads to smaller, more powerful consumer electronics.

Founded in 2016, we bring together the most creative minds (approx. 320 employees) in science and technology and develop a one-of-a-kind, revolutionary high throughput Scanning Probe Microscopy system.

What you’re going to do

As a Test Automation Engineer at Nearfields Instruments, you’ll ensure the reliability and performance of our advanced metrology software in a dynamic environment that is constantly evolving due to technological advances and our international growth ambitions.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Design, implement, and maintain automated test frameworks for a C#-based desktop application (front-end and back-end).

  • Write automated UI, functional, and integration tests in C# (using NUnit).

  • Integrate and maintain automated test execution within GitLab CI/CD pipelines.

  • Support test automation scripting in Python when needed (e.g., data validation, CI/CD tooling, API tests).

  • Execute manual testing (functional, regression, exploratory) when automation is not feasible.

  • Collaborate closely with developers to identify test coverage gaps and ensure product quality.

  • Maintain clear test documentation (test plans, reports, automation guidelines).

Who you’ll be working with

You’ll join Nearfield Instruments’ Software Group, within the Design and Engineering (D&E) department. This small, young team consists of QA engineers from various backgrounds. The environment is collaborative and informal, focused on agile methodologies to ensure open communication, knowledge sharing and continuous improvement. As a growing scale-up, our flat structure fosters a close-knit culture where initiative and innovation are encouraged, and social activities, from lunches to sports events, help build strong team bonds.

Job requirements

Your ability to develop, implement and refine testing strategies ensures that quality and performance standards are consistently met. Thriving both independently and within a collaborative team, you navigate international and dynamic settings with ease.

 You also have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field.

  • Proven experience in designing and implementing test plans and strategies specifically for embedded systems and complex software development life cycles.

  • Strong background in test automation for desktop applications (Windows, WPF/WinForms).

  • Proficiency in C# programming for automated test development.

  • Hands-on experience with test automation frameworks (NUnit).

  • Familiarity with desktop UI automation tools such as FlaUI is a plus.

  • Proven experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines (GitLab preferred).

  • Understanding of software testing principles (test design, regression, integration, performance).

  • Working knowledge of Git workflows and version control.
