Product Safety Officer

Founded in 2016, we bring together the most creative minds (approx. 200 employees) in science and technology and develop a one-of-a-kind, revolutionary high throughput Scanning Probe Microscopy system.
Where you will be working?
Depending on organization maturity, you work either within the Quality Health Safety and Environment (QHSE) team or Design and Engineering (D&E) team in the Rotterdam office, report with a dotted line to the CEO.
What will you be doing?
You take responsibility for product safety, and ensure compliance to applicable safety standards and regulations for our products during all phases of its lifecycle. You do so by working in close cooperation with Design and Engineering, Production, Supply Chain and Program Management teams. You liaise with the Safety Officer, who takes care of the Occupational Health & Safety (ARBO) side of safety, and together you cover all aspects of safety within the company.
The most important aspects of the function:
Safeguard that our products can be built, installed, operated and serviced safely. Approve product and tooling regarding safety. This involves both design documents, as well as procedures to build, install, and maintain our product;
Foster a safety culture during our product development and industrialization processes, and emphasize safety competence buildup at key positions within our organization;
Maintain and roll out the Product Safety Policy, and ensure controls are in place to secure product safety during design, validation, and release or our product. It also includes identification and mitigation of risks in our way of working.
What are we looking for?
Scale-ups can provide phenomenal learning and development opportunities but can also be a hectic environment at times. You must fit in such a climate and don’t mind to constantly implement changes and process improvements, be hands-on, and to go the extra mile on a regular basis and feel comfortable with some uncertainty.
Furthermore, you need to recognize yourself in the profile as described below.
Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Mechatronics, and ability to cross competences where needed, with at least 5 years experience in a similar position, preferably in semiconductor equipment industry;
Familiar with applicable regulations and standards regarding safety, like: European Machinery Regulation (EU) 2023/1230 (new), Machinery Directive (2006/42/EC) (old), European EMC Directive (2014/30/EU), SEMI S2/S8/S10/S14, NIOSH , NEN-3140, ROHS, REACH, WEE (TBD);
Preferably graduate of product safety compliance program (CMSE® Certified Machinery Safety Expert), and a proven track record acquiring machine certification (CE, SEMI S2/S8) is highly valued;
Experience with, or ability to lead engineering design review sessions using FMEA, HAZOP, “What-If” or other hazard identification methods of new modules and subsystems;
Ability to manage stakeholders on all levels of the organization and make the difference, including suppliers and external customers.
