Nearfield Instruments is a scale up that brings together the most creative minds in science and technology to develop a revolutionary high throughput atomic force microscopy (AFM) system. This enables atom-scale resolution 3D metrology at industry-level throughput. We design, develop, integrate, market and service these advanced metrology machines, and are expanding our business in the US and Asia.

What will you be doing?

The US Service Manager develops the US support infrastructure for Nearfield’s US installed base. This includes hiring and developing service and applications engineers, setting up local stocking of parts and tooling.

The service manager also identifies opportunities for improving reliability, availability and serviceability of our equipment in the field, and drives implementation of these improvements locally or when needed globally.

In addition, the service manager shares insights and recommendations for improving the bottom line of our install, service and upgrade business. This includes both opportunities to add more value for the customer as well as ways to execute at lower costs.

Besides setting up and running a healthy local support business, the service manager also acts as the eyes and ears in the customer fab for Nearfield product performance and competitive intelligence.

As Nearfield’s business grows you will set up new sites and ensure learnings from Hillsboro are translated to these new sites.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Establish a new local service organization in Portland, including hiring and developing field service and applications engineers;

  • Measure reliability, availability and serviceability of the installed based and translate the findings in improvement and training plans;

  • Drive product design and service quality improvements;

  • Share learnings and adopt learnings from other sites;

  • Share business intelligence on competition;

  • Ensure we are ready for future demand in Hillsboro and other sites by understanding and preparing for customer ramp plans;

  • Ensure the voice of the customer (why, what, when something is needed) is represented in Nearfield’s internal decision-making on produce development, installation, upgrades and field service support;

  • Supporting service revenue and margin at the customer.

    What do we require from you?

    • Ability to organize and get things done in a cross-functional setting;

    • Can build and develop a team;

    • Problem-solving skills;

    • Takes ownership and acts, has bias for action;

    • The ability to build and maintain strong relationships, fab management;

    • Travel as needed to NFI headquarters in the Netherlands. In the US your main activities will be in Portland, Or. This may expand as our products get adopted at other sites.
