(Senior) System Engineer

Become responsible for the conformity of the equipment infrastructure of our state-of-the-art metrology systems

Nearfield Instruments brings together the most creative minds in science and technology to develop a revolutionary high throughput atomic force microscopy (AFM) system, enabling atom-scale resolution 3D metrology at industry-level throughput. We design, develop, integrate, market and service these advanced metrology machines.

What will you be doing?

As a Senior System Engineer, you will be accountable for the system compliance to customer’s requirements during all the phases of the product lifecycle.

Based on customer’s expected critical performance criteria, you will be in charge to derive requirements at the System level, to comply with Performance, Manufacturability, Reliability and Serviceability requirements. You are to assess the feasibility of these requirements and to support the complete development of the product until validation and final integration at the customer.

You work in close collaboration with the following Departments:

  • Product Marketing whom you support with technical information related to the current state of the machine and help identifying gaps to be covered by R&D or D&E.

  • Development & Engineering to whom you provide System Performance Requirements and/or Specifications and Architecture/Feasibility studies and then lead technical decision-making.

  • Manufacturing Assembly Integration and Tests with whom you define Verification, Validation and Qualification plans at system and subsystem level.

As a Senior System Engineer, you will be in regular contact with the customers. You will answer questions and requests and assist them in a professional and proactive manner. To excel, you need to be customer-oriented and have excellent problem analysis skills. Your power of persuasion is strong, you demonstrate good communication skills, and you possess natural leadership qualities. This role may involve occasional travel.

What do we require from you?

The Senior System Engineer we seek ideally has at least several years of experience as a System Engineer in a high-tech working environment. Experience in the field of semiconductor equipment is a plus. Furthermore, you will recognize yourself in the profile as described below.

Requirements:

  • You have a Master’s degree or PhD in one of the following domains: Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Image and Signal Processing or Optics. During your previous experiences, you should have already been involved deeply in several of these domains;

  • You have knowledge of state-of-the-art solutions and products in Metrology and/or Precision Mechanisms;

  • You have experience in establishing Top-Down performance budgets;

  • You have an excellent understanding of risks and opportunities assessments to lead trade-off studies;

  • You have the capability to identify gaps in the Product Architecture and find solutions to close those gaps;

  • You have experience in coordinating a development plan;

  • You are a natural leader;

  • You are a conceptual and structured thinker;

  • You can negotiate;

  • You have extensive knowledge of validation methods;

  • You are a team player with strong interpersonal skills;

  • You have a strong focus on quality

  • You have strong communication skills;

  • You have the drive to achieve results on time;

  • You have a good command of the English language, both verbally and in writing.
