Sr. Technical Account Manager
Nearfield Instruments is a scale up that brings together the most creative minds in science and technology to develop a revolutionary high throughput atomic force microscopy (AFM) system. This enables atom-scale resolution 3D metrology at industry-level throughput. We design, develop, integrate, market and service these advanced metrology machines, and are expanding our business in the US and Asia.
What you’re going to do:
The Sr. Technical Account Manager focuses on growing our business at existing customers. You understand the customer’s technology roadmap and volume ramp plans and translate these to opportunities for Nearfield to develop and sell products.
Based on customer inputs during evaluations and other interactions, as well as your competitive analysis you develop a set of actions and timelines which Nearfield needs to execute on to secure the business we are after. You play an important role in new business pitches to the customer, as well as internal pitches for key decisions. You are responsible for ensuring Nearfield’s products become the preferred choice in the customer’s production process for an increasing number of applications.
The position requires significant engagement with the customer and the ability to position complex technical solutions at the process unit and integrated level.
Who you’ll be working with:
You identify technical problems and solution sets and lead the coordination of key internal stakeholders to include the Product Unit technical teams, Product Unit Marketing and Business Development teams and the coordination of the local Program and Support teams to interact with and maintain contact with high level personnel at the customer to influence the need for Nearfield’s value added product solutions.
What will you do
Build and maintain strong relationships with customer stakeholders at both operational and executive levels.
Act as the primary technical liaison, ensuring clear communication between Nearfield teams and the customer.
Identify technical challenges and lead internal coordination across Product Units, Marketing, Business Development, and Support to deliver tailored solutions.
Influence customer decisions by positioning Nearfield’s solutions as the preferred choice in production processes.
Drive customer engagement through participation in key forums, ensuring their voice is reflected in product development and support planning.
Develop and maintain comprehensive account strategies that support long-term growth, collaboration, and product adoption.
Monitor competitive positioning and identify areas for differentiation to secure and expand Nearfield’s footprint.
Own customer satisfaction and proactively address issues to maintain strong relationships and business continuity.
Provide clear, ongoing updates to internal stakeholders through concise reporting and status presentations.
Who you are:
B.S. or M.S. in Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or a related field.
8+ years in Key Account Management, Business Development, or Sales within the semiconductor capital equipment industry.
Proven success managing complex technical engagements and new product introductions.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to drive cross-functional collaboration.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of clearly conveying complex technical concepts.
Understanding of IP considerations and maintaining confidentiality in sensitive engagements.
Willingness to travel domestically (mainly Portland, OR and other customer sites) and internationally to HQ.Equipment Industry.
