Job description

About Nearfield Instruments
Nearfield Instruments (NFI) is a fast-growing scale-up high-tech company. We design, develop, integrate, market and service advanced metrology machines. Our machines enable our customers - the world’s leading chipmakers – to increase the production yields, and thus, functionality of their microchips, which in turn leads to smaller, more powerful consumer electronics.

Founded in 2016, we bring together the most creative minds (approx. 400 employees) in science and technology and develop a one-of-a-kind, revolutionary high throughput Scanning Probe Microscopy system.

Where you will be working

You'll be joining a dynamic and passionate Finance team. It's a group of driven professionals with diverse expertise and backgrounds, all working together to create a collaborative and inspiring environment.

The role

Nearfield Instruments is building the measurement systems that make the next generation of chips possible. We are growing fast and are in a phase where financial infrastructure and reporting structure directly contribute to the IPO trajectory ahead of us.

As Group Controller, you are responsible for the integrity and completeness of financial reporting, internal controls and administrative processes at group level. You work closely with the CFO and are the primary point of contact for external auditors, entities and finance stakeholders across the organisation.

This is a role without direct reports, but with full ownership. You operate independently, help build the financial infrastructure and have direct visibility into all entities.

What you will be doing:

  • IFRS reporting: You prepare and review IFRS-compliant financial statements for group reporting purposes, independently and with a sharp eye for detail

  • Monthly reporting: You lead the preparation of management reports and ensure timely delivery to the CFO and senior management

  • Annual report and audit: You coordinate the annual report process and serve as the primary point of contact for external auditors

  • Transfer pricing: You own and maintain the group's transfer pricing policy and ensure intercompany transactions are correctly documented

  • ERP: You act as the finance lead in implementation and optimisation projects

  • Ledger quality: You drive structural improvement efforts on data quality and subledger consistency across the group

  • Internal audit: You coordinate internal audit activities and follow up on findings

  • Payments and debtor administration: You oversee the payment process and manage the debtor portfolio

Job requirements

What are we looking for?

A scale up can provide phenomenal learning and development opportunities but can also be a hectic environment at times. You must fit in such a climate and don't mind to constantly implementing changes and process improvements, and to go the extra mile on a regular basis and feel comfortable with some uncertainty.

Furthermore, you need to recognize yourself in the profile as described below.

  • A completed Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; RA or RC qualification is a strong plus

  • At least 7 years of relevant experience in a similar role, with a background in either Big Four / mid-tier audit or an in-house group control function

  • Solid, hands-on knowledge of IFRS and group consolidation; you can prepare and review IFRS financial statements independently

  • Deep technical knowledge of NL GAAP and IFRS; familiarity with US GAAP and SOC compliance is a plus

  • Experience in a manufacturing or high-tech production environment is a strong advantage; you understand the link between operations and financial reporting

  • Proven track record in ERP environments; experience with ERP implementation or migration projects is a plus

  • Familiarity with transfer pricing principles and intercompany structures

  • Experience acting as the primary contact for external auditors during annual audits

  • Strong analytical skills combined with a sharp eye for data quality and process improvement; you think ahead and challenge the status quo

  • Comfortable operating in a scaling, fast-moving organisation where structure is still being built

  • Full-time availability at our Rotterdam office

What can you expect from us?

Getting on board now is a great opportunity to grow with the company from a technical, personal, and financial perspective. Nearfield's momentum is energetic and promising!

  • Direct impact on the IPO trajectory and financial build-out of a fast-growing company

  • Close collaboration with the CFO during a phase that genuinely matters

  • 30 holidays per calendar year (based on 40 hours)

  • 8% holiday allowance

  • Pension scheme

  • OpenUp account

  • Discount on your health insurance

  • A challenging role where you can utilise the full extent of your professional knowledge
