Job description
Meet the complex metrology needs of the semiconductor industry in this customer-facing role at a rapidly growing scale-up. Chips are shrinking, becoming increasingly powerful and complex. As a result, currently used metrology systems in the semiconductor industry no longer meet advanced process control requirements.
Nearfield Instruments offers the solution in terms of speed, precision, and the capability to measure the most advanced 3D nanostructures. As a Metrology Application Engineer based in Singapore, you will play a key role in identifying and fulfilling customers’ metrology needs across the Asia-Pacific region. Would you like to collaborate with the world’s leading chipmakers and see the results of your work in high-volume manufacturing environments? We’re growing and hiring.
What You’re Going to Do
In this role, you will help customers get the most out of our products and represent the voice of the customer toward central teams. You will assist leading semiconductor manufacturers in maintaining control of their manufacturing processes by demonstrating the capabilities of our cutting-edge atomic force microscopy (AFM) systems on customer wafers.
Your input will also contribute to R&D to meet the future needs of our customers. Your responsibilities include:
Identifying customer metrology needs, working closely with Sales and Marketing colleagues, and participating in technical discussions and customer meetings across the APAC region.
Demonstrating product capabilities by performing measurements on customer wafers and analyzing the resulting data.
Reporting and presenting measurement results to customers, highlighting the unique value and performance of Nearfield Instruments’ systems.
Creating and optimizing measurement recipes within customer fabs, working closely with customer engineers.
Conducting qualification and verification tests to ensure specifications are met, and training customer engineers and operators.
Taking the lead in specifying, investigating, and resolving measurement- or data-processing-related issues in collaboration with Sales & Marketing, Customer Support, and Development & Engineering teams.
Working closely with Development & Engineering and R&D to develop new measurement modes, metrology solutions, data-processing algorithms, and to improve usability and product performance.
Providing customer-driven input based on insights into customer roadmaps, fab requirements, and user experience.
Demonstrating a strong customer-oriented mindset while performing all responsibilities.
Who You’ll Be Working With
As a rapidly growing scale-up, we operate with minimal hierarchy and strong cross-functional collaboration. We work together globally to realize Nearfield Instruments’ growth strategy.
Our international team represents many cultures and backgrounds, and diversity and inclusion are integral to how we work. We encourage authenticity and support personal and professional growth in an open, friendly, and collaborative environment.
What You’ll Get
At Nearfield Instruments, you’ll work alongside some of the most creative minds in science and technology from around the world. You’ll have the opportunity to make a visible impact on the future of semiconductor manufacturing.
We offer:
A competitive salary aligned with your skills, expertise, and experience.
Benefits in line with Singapore employment standards, including health insurance and retirement-related benefits.
A structured onboarding program and a dedicated buddy to help you start with confidence.
Extensive on-the-job training while working with industry-leading scientists on technology that does not yet exist.
Strong opportunities for career growth within a rapidly expanding global scale-up.
A diverse and inclusive workplace with colleagues from over 30 nationalities.
An open and transparent working culture that empowers you to take initiative and ownership.
A collaborative, high-tech working environment where professional and personal connections thrive.
A fun and engaging place to work.
Job requirements
Who You Are
You thrive in a customer-facing engineering role within a deep-tech scale-up, where interdisciplinary collaboration is essential. You communicate effectively with customers and internal teams to deliver optimal metrology solutions. You are flexible to occasionally work outside standard office hours, as demo tools and development systems are shared globally—this flexibility is reciprocated to support work-life balance.
You also have:
Experience developing or using metrology tools in a manufacturing or high-volume fab environment.
Experience working directly with customers; experience with semiconductor foundries or IDMs is a strong plus.
Experience with, or a strong interest in, atomic force microscopy (AFM).
A PhD or MSc in Physics, Mechatronics, Materials Engineering, or a related discipline.
A solid understanding of semiconductor manufacturing processes.
Experience with MATLAB, Python, or similar programming languages for data analysis and visualization; algorithm development experience is a plus.
Willingness to travel within Singapore and across the Asia-Pacific region as required.
