The Role
As a System Engineer, you will play a crucial role in driving customer success, accelerating new product adoption, and serving as the technical bridge between our customers, local account teams, and R&D experts at our headquarters in the Netherlands.

This is a highly customer-facing position for someone who combines deep semiconductor process knowledge with strong technical problem-solving skills and a passion for innovation.

As System Engineer, you will be the technical lead supporting our customers and local team in South Korea. You will help maximize the performance of our installed systems, accelerate adoption of new technologies, and work closely with customers to solve their most critical manufacturing challenges.

You will collaborate closely with Customer Service Engineers, Applications Engineers, Account Managers, and R&D teams to ensure our customers achieve maximum value from Nearfield's technology.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & Customer Engagement

  • Act as the technical lead providing guidance and support to the local team.

  • Build strong partnerships with local account teams and R&D domain experts.

  • Serve as a trusted technical advisor to customers.

  • Analyze, report, and present findings to customers, demonstrating the unique capabilities and value of Nearfield's solutions.

  • Translate customer feedback and requirements into actionable technical insights.

Installed Fleet – Driving Tool Performance

  • Serve as the highest on-site technical escalation point for complex hardware, software, and algorithm-related issues.

  • Provide expert technical support to Applications Engineers and Customer Service Engineers.

  • Troubleshoot challenging measurement and process-related issues.

  • Continuously monitor, assess, and improve overall tool performance.

  • Drive root-cause analysis and corrective actions to ensure customer success.

New Product Introduction (NPI)

  • Execute on-site Concept & Feasibility (C&F) studies using customer data in real production environments.

  • Support pre-sales activities by demonstrating technical readiness and proving new product capabilities.

  • Identify performance limitations on customer tools and process layers.

  • Analyze error budgets, process interactions, and measurement challenges.

  • Own and drive development plans for selected software, algorithm, and hardware features in collaboration with global System Engineering teams.

Solving Customer High-Value Problems (HVPs)

  • Develop solutions addressing critical customer manufacturing challenges and business objectives.

  • Strengthen customer partnerships through close collaboration and technical engagement.

  • Identify, define, and execute joint development projects with customers.

  • Lead technical requirement gathering for existing and emerging customer needs.

  • Contribute actively to R&D activities to accelerate solution development.

  • Gather competitive intelligence related to metrology, inspection, adjacent technologies, market trends, and customer roadmaps.

What You Bring

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, Semiconductor Engineering, or a related field.

  • Hands-on experience working in a semiconductor fabrication environment.

  • Strong knowledge of advanced logic and/or memory manufacturing processes.

  • Experience developing, deploying, supporting, or using semiconductor metrology and inspection tools in a production environment.

  • Experience working directly with semiconductor customers.

  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.

  • Excellent communication and presentation abilities.

  • Fluent in Korean and proficient in English.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with semiconductor foundries or memory manufacturers.

  • Experience in process integration, device engineering, yield improvement, metrology, or process control.

  • Proven track record collaborating with customer R&D and manufacturing teams.

  • Experience leading technical projects across multiple stakeholders.

  • Knowledge of Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) technology.

  • Experience with advanced process control, modeling, data analytics, or semiconductor algorithms.

Highly Desired

  • Direct AFM metrology experience.

  • Experience supporting advanced logic nodes and/or leading-edge memory technologies.

  • Experience driving new technology introductions into high-volume manufacturing environments.
